Greetings from the Turin Library!
Summer Reading Success!
The Summer Reading Kids did it again! The challenge was to read 750
books, and at the last minute they pulled it off with a total of 874
books/chapters! Since they won, they were able to soak the adults with water
bottles, which turned into water balls, which turned into containers of water,
which turned into buckets, etc… But the adults returned fire and a good time
was had by all! (Hopefully our pictures will be up soon.) We also made some
awesome huge bubbles with our special “magic bubble mix”. Thanks to everyone
for helping make our program a success and “an adventure”! We really
appreciate the time and effort it takes to get kids here, and we hope to see
everyone next year!
Improv4kids
Our community program of Improv4kids was a great show! Over 225
children and adults enjoyed this improvisational/comedy show. It was a 100%
kid participation event and everyone did a great job. Even the kids and adults
called on stage were great sports.
Community Book Chats
There is still time to read for the Book Chat! The two titles for our
Community Book Chats are Finn, by Jon Clinch, and Growing Up Strong by Sadie
Cantin, etc. (Four North Country Women Recall Their Lives) The next meeting
will be August 12th at 7:00 at the Turin Library. Ask at the library if you
have questions or need one of these books.
Storywalk at Whetstone Gulf
The Turin Library has erected a “Storywalk” at the Whetstone Gulf
State Park Exercise Trail. We really appreciate the staff at Whetstone letting
us provide this program for one month. Right after Labor Day we will be taking
it down for the winter so hurry in to the park and enjoy exercising and reading
a story as you walk along! It’s especially great for kids!
Art Exhibit at the Library
Celebrating Family Farms of the Tug Hill Region – Tug Hill Tomorrow
Land Trust and artist Loretta Lepkowski present a traveling art exhibit which
celebrates the richness and diversity of family farms throughout our region.
This wonderful artwork will be on display from Oct. 6th through the 20th, so
stop in a see her beautiful work. Watch for details of an “artist reception”
as well.
Library E-News List
If you know anyone who may be interested in getting on our new Library E-
News List, email us or call the library with their email address. It’s a quick
and easy way to get updates and information on what is happening here at the
library. Sometimes we have things come up rather suddenly that don’t make the
papers, and this would guarantee you receive the information!
We are located on East Main Street and our hours are Monday 4-6:00,
Wednesday 1-9:00, and Thursday 7-9:00. Stop in for a visit!
“You see, I don’t believe that libraries should be drab places where people
sit in silence, and that’s been the main reason for our policy of employing
wild animals as librarians.” Monty Python
